Here's my lesson plan so far, let me know if you can think of any ways to improve it. I will fill in the plenary tomorrow as I havn't quite decided how I will do that yet. I have made my resources, will try and upload them tomorrow as well.

Class/Group: P7 Mixed ability Lesson: Modern Languages

Previous Experience: Children have previously been introduced to this topic last year, looking at basic names for places in the town.

Working towards outcomes of a Curriculum for Excellence:
I can participate in familiar collaborative activities including games, paired speaking and short role plays. MLAN 2-05b
I can recognise and comment on features of my own language which help to make sense of words in the language I am learning. MLAN 2-11d
By comparing the lifestyle and culture of citizens in another country with those of Scotland, I can discuss the similarities and differences. SOC 2-19a

Learning Intentions:
I will learn the vocabulary for commonly used places in the town.
I will learn about the differences in culture between France and Scotland.

Success Criteria:
I will be able to recognise and recall at least 6 places in the town.
I will be able to identify and discuss with others the cultural similarities and differences between Scotland and France.

Methods:
Teacher observation of pronunciation of vocabulary and of task work.
Children's self evaluation using fist of five.

Beginning of lesson:
Introduce to topic of 'In the Town' with video clip showing places in the town.
Using waiting time ask the children. What sort of shops did you see in the town? (Possible answers: book shop, bakers, hat shop). Can you think of any shops and important places near your home? (10mins)
Resources - video clip from beauty and the beast.

Teaching the learning intention:
Introduce topic using power point showing pictures of places in the town along with the French. When going through slides, allow children thinking time for each one to analyse the French and picture then ask if anyone can explain what place it is? Model the pronunciation for the children and ask to repeat. Bring to children's attention any similarities between the French and English. Circulate the class to check pronunciation. (10mins)
Resources - IWB, power point slide show.

Discuss with children the cultural differences between France. Ask children what they notice about the types of shops in France. Are they the same as the sorts of shops we have in Scotland? Allow children to discuss these questions with their elbow partner then share their answers with the rest of the class. (10mins)

Lotto game - ask one child from each table to collect a lotto grid and pack of lotto cards for each person at their table. Instruct the children to choose nine lotto cards and place them on their grids. Explain the rules of the game to the children (the teacher will call out place names from 'In the Town' in French, if someone has that card on their board, they can remove it. If anybody get three empty spaces vertically, horizontally or diagonally, then they call lotto). (10mins)
Resources - 30 lotto grids and packs of lotto cards, vocabulary sheet for children who may have difficulty.

Ending the Lesson:
With elbow partner, children to select 6 place cards and take turns telling their partner the French for these.
Ask children to show understanding and confidence with vocabulary by showing fist of five.
Tidy away materials.
